RAD Graded Programs

RAD Primary In Dance

The Graded Examination Syllabus consists of Primary, and numbered Grades 1-8. Each grade incorporates classical ballet, free movement and character dance. The syllabus is devised to progress in difficulty from one grade to the next and a student studying the grades in sequence would be expected to develop a greater degree of dance technique at each level. Eligible students will participate in an exam once per year or a presentation for an examiner. Participation in examinations are not compulsory. The entry level of a new student is decided by the dance teacher based upon the child’s age and natural ability.

Elite Programs

Full Time Training Program

This is a boutique Classical Ballet program catering to students with the ambition of becoming principal and soloist dancers within a professional dance company. There is a strong focus on developing the individual and therefore small classes are imperative to ensure rigorous attention to each student in order to strengthen technique, and polish performance quality. All applicants for the Pevnev Full Time Training Program are required to undertake a strict selection process. Auditions will include a solo performance, ballet class and an interview to assess ability and commitment. The academy offers entry into either the Junior or the Senior stream. Click here for more information

After School Training Program

The After School Training Program is an extension of our well established Full Time Program. The program is designed for aspiring young dancers to undertake a similarly structured training experience as Full Time students, working towards perfecting their technique and performance artistry. The program is suited to students from the age of 11 years only with four levels, and includes Conditioning/Fitness, Classical Ballet based on the Vaganova method, International Character Dance Syllabus, and Contemporary tuition. Successful candidates will experience the benefit of working in a focused environment where teaching staff will guide them in a holistic and dedicated manner. Every student in the program will be formally assessed annually by Full Time teaching staff and a guest assessor. Students will have the opportunity to participate in local competitions including the annual RAD Festival of Dance, and perform in the Pevnev Ballet Academy production, at the discretion of the Full Time staff. Entry to the program is by audition only. Auditions for entry in the 2020 After School Training Program will be held on Saturday 21 September 2019 at 3.00pm. Register your interest by emailing pevnevballet@outlook.com before Friday 20 September. Please contact the academy if you should have any questions.

Transition to Full Time

Gifted students can attend a full or half day of
day-time classes per week in addition to their after school classes.
The program enables a student to take on a greater and more specialised training regime until such time as s/he is ready to take the step towards attending a full-time dance program. Auditions for the Transition to Full Time Program can be arranged by contacting the studio.

Junior Extension Program

This program is by invitation for gifted students currently enrolled in the RAD Grades 3 and 4 at Pevnev Ballet Academy. Additional classes to their current RAD or contemporary enrolment include classical extension, performance group and conditioning.

Junior Classical

Little Toes (2 years and over)

Little Toes is a delightful way for mums and dads to share with their little ones the natural instincts and joys of moving to music. The interactive classes encourage the development of gross motor skills, appreciation of music, expression and are a lovely bonding time for parents and their children.

Little Stars (3 years and over)

Little Stars is the first level of classes in which children participate without the presence of mum or dad in the studio. Classes continue to focus on developing children’s gross motor skills, appreciation of and appropriate responses to different styles and qualities of music, and confidence in expression through movement and mime. Children enjoy the weekly ‘adventure’-based theme, and the use of props, and classes are accompanied by a pianist

Petite Pevnevs (4 years and over)

Petite Pevnev classes focus on one well-known ballet per term, and are a delightful way for children to become familiar with the story, characters and music from the traditional classical repertoire. Children enjoy the use of props and simple costumes at this level to enhance their experience and movement begins to become more formalised in line with the increasing level of motor skills and coordination.

Pre-Primary In Dance (5 years and over)

Introduction to RAD syllabus graded programs.

Primary Preparation (6 years and over)

Classes focus on preparing students for success in the first graded RAD award in their following year.

Youth Contemporary

For students aged 8 years and over who would like to study a contemporary syllabus.

International Character Dance Syllabus

International Character Dance - Levels 1-3

Character dance is integral to much of the classical ballet repertoire. It is the stylised representation of a traditional folk or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater. Students participate in the ICD Syllabus learning as part of the After School and Full Time Training Programs, however students who wish to learn ICDS as a stand alone class are very welcome.
